Avatars And Other Jargon…

Sounds like a super hero from the comic books, doesn’t it. “Avatar the Mighty” or something to that tune. I had never heard this word until I started spending time on the internet. They are used everywhere now to represent you and your friends. I use one here in WordPress and a different one on Facebook and an even different one on Twitter. Sometimes I feel the world has gone avatar crazy. There are software programs so you can make them yourself or you can join a community of avatars and chat or hang out. Some look a little like the Bratz dolls, while others are based on popular TV icons like the Simpsons. WordPress even has Gravatars, making the whole thing more confusing. “What’s the difference between Avatar and Gravatar” you ask. “Well a G and an r” is what I would say. The whole thing is a little silly, but I can understand not wanting to put your picture out there for anyone to see. You never know who is reading and what they might be able to find out about you, so the last thing you want to do is give them a visual reference. What this is all leading up to is the new avatar I have chosen to represent me here on my page “Me in a Nutshell”. It’s the about me page and surprisingly gets a lot of once overs. I am not brave enough to put my real face out there so I looked for an alternative. I made this avatar on the website A Womans World and it’s a good likeness especially around the bunny slippers, if you add 50 pounds and about 25 years. Unfortunately no one has old ladies who are overweight avatars so this one had to do. Hope you like it.

I personally think it’s very cute… and I love the new look! My avatar is of a toy that I love… hehe

I think she’s lovely. I was thinking you didn’t know what an Avatar was, and then I realized I learned it when I was 25 reading a sci-fi book. *roll of eyes* Yeah, I’m self-centered AND a geek. My avatar I found looking for something that said fairy and mom; it came off some one’s my space page and I don’t know who the artist is. My bff says the similarities are uncanny . . . though I don’t have pointy ears.

I’ll still be using the water drop here in wordpress because it represents my blog but I will be using “her” for everything else… at least for a while. I like your avatar, it’s beautiful and represents a mom very well. Since we have never met, are you sure you don’t have pointy ears.
