Friday Photo: The Jokers….

jokersSee, I told you they married the right guys (Two Peas In A Pod). This was taken at a friends wedding. They had a photo booth which was a great idea for weddings. You took your picture and put it into an album for the bride and groom. This was their guest book photo. ’79, ’80 and their 2 Mikes.

Two Peas In A Pod….

6215_1181303646059_1032226485_30577381_4053208_n

This is one of the wedding photos for my daughter 79’s wedding. She just had her first anniversary and says it still feels like a honeymoon. Oddly enough so does her sister ’80 who just had her 3rd anniversary.  I remember my first anniversary and I have to tell you that first year of marriage was one of the hardest. We were too young, just 18 and too stupid to listen to anyone even each other. I am so glad they are not.

It’s funny how they do things together. They were born 11 months apart and if you take ’79s birthday and time of birth (13th at 3:13) then double it you get ’80s birthday and time of birth (26th at 6:26). I am not a numerologist but I wonder if that means anything. They shared a room growing up, one liked pink, one liked purple. They were the tag team in the house getting into trouble together.  In truth they out numbered me. When they were little most people thought they were twins and in a way they were. Some days it seemed they had their own language that the rest of us couldn’t follow. They have a bond that no amount of time, distance or disputes can change.

But their weddings couldn’t have been more different. 79’s was glamour and art deco. 80’s was on the beach and informal. Both had kicking music and food. Both were a lot of fun. Both married the right guy. ’79 gave ’80 her grandmother’s ring as her something borrowed. ’80 gave ’79 her veil as her something borrowed.  One had a traditional Jewish ceremony and the other had a non-traditional christian, Jewish, Filipino ceremony. These girls are so much alike in many ways and yet they are also as different as their weddings were, with only the veil remaining the same. Sisters in life, twins in heart, two peas in a pod.

'79 and M under hoopa’79 made the Chuppah herself. She designed it and had the design airbrushed. It is the first of many family heirlooms.

Mike and his family designed and built this Chuppah the day of the wedding.

Home….

I wrote this for ’80 and her husband (one of the three Mikes) when they bought their first house. We were helping them to move and everyone was arguing. I sat in my car for a minute of peace and quiet. These words came to me and while it might not be my best, I think it says it all quiet well.

Walls and plaster, paint and paper

Brick and mortar, stone and rock

Home is much more than these material things.

It is midnight talks and whispered fears

Holding hands in the quietness of the dark

While hopes and dreams are made and lost.

Mowing the lawn and walking the dog

The struggle and juggle of life

When love is there, children’s laughter is sure to follow

Measured in inches on the door frame.

Years and tears, life and loss

Age shows on it as it does on you

But so does that love, like a well worn friend.

Love soaks into the walls and foundation

Time and love, history and experience

This is what makes a house a home.

It warms you and cheers you

It gives you comfort and solace

It records your life inside it’s heart.

Someone once said “you can’t go home again”

They didn’t understand that home is a spirit that is always with you

And those who have it are truly blessed.

Hairspray….

hairspray crop

Well this past Friday and Saturday were K’s performances of Hairspray. She plays Velma Von Tussle, the Michelle Pfeiffer role in the movie. She had a solo song, Miss Baltimore Crabs. This was a good show and there were several standout songs. There is only one drawback and you will hear it in the video. The drawback is shoes, high heels on a wooden floor. The noise was loud and distracting. Click clack, click clack all night long. You don’t get to see it in the video but at one point in the play K had to faint and she dropped like a rock on this hard floor, scared me to death because I was sure she had hit her head. She is a trooper but as her grandmother I hope she doesn’t have to do that too often. They announced that the next show would be The Nightmare Before Christmas and that tryouts would start Sept. 3. I know K is hoping to get the part of Jack. Good Luck or break a leg K.

Vodpod videos no longer available.
