And The Tony Award Goes To…

Don’t scoff at me, it could happen. Heck, she might even win an Oscar someday since she wants to be a film composer. This is a local kids community theater production of High School Musical. They all worked very hard on a teeny tiny budget. My granddaughter ’96 is the one in the black tank top with a pink and black striped skirt. I thought she was wonderful and that is a completely biased opinion, ha ha. She will be playing Aslan the lion in The Chronicles of Narnia next. She is also very excited about doing a production of Psycho in October, where she will be playing the role of Norman Bates, a schizophrenic serial killer. Yes it’s a boys part but she wants to do it and no she doesn’t want to be Norma Bates, she wants to play it as written.

Skater Girl is the name of her character here. I wish the photos had turned out better but these were the only 2 that I could use. She really gives a performance though and enjoys creating offbeat characters.

Yes I know it’s blurry, get over it. Truthfully I have a lovely video of the kids singing and dancing but the only way I could upload it was to put it on youtube first and then embed it into the post. This was okay  when I thought I could keep it private there (on youtube) and just share it here on the blog, but that didn’t work out too well so I have deleted it. I just couldn’t expose the kids to youtube, how would they feel, how would their parents feel. It’s one thing to be on a small family blog with low traffic and another thing to be on youtube with the possibility of  thousands of views a week. I’m a little disappointed but I know it is the right decision. Now for one more important opinion about the show. Which leads to the burning question “why does he do this”

2004

This is my grandson ‘o4 and this seemed to be his critque of the show because whenever you asked him if he liked it, this is what he did. He loves doing it as you will see.

20042Has he been watching too much Kiss, I wonder?

2004#3Sorry about the red eye. I really have to get a nifty little program to deal with that one of these days. I wonder what is going through his mind? I told him his face might freeze that way and his eyes got real big and he laughed and then he said “cool”.  I told you he loved doing it. Rock on dude! Peace out!

Six Word Saturday…

I was asked to describe my life in 6 words. How am I feeling today. Probably not the best day to ask but here it is. Little harder than I thought it would be to use only 6 words because as you know I love words.

Chainsaws And A Sexy Guy, Oh My…

266674555909_0_0tree

I had a rude awakening this morning. You see the tree in the picture above, well there use to be three of them. They were roughly 40 years old and this morning they suffered a horrible fate. The trees were undermining the yard and the house so the owners had them cut down. Can you imagine the noise of chain saws and wood chippers, what a cacophony of sound. I took a little movie on my cell phone so you could hear the noise but I couldn’t get it to upload, sorry. It was a good one too. Just as I started filming, the guy climbing on top of the dismantled tree below, the cute one looking all sweaty and tanned reached down and stripped his shirt off. It was like in the Coke commercial. A tall drink of water as my Mother would say. Am I a bad person that I wasn’t bothered by the noise so much anymore and had this goofy grin on my face. Not a bad way to start the day after all.

Ode To A Poppy…

First let me apologize for the quality of the first 2 photos. They were taken on a cell phone. This was the view from my backyard. Beautiful isn’t it. It’s not there anymore. They built houses and now there are no more poppies. I live close to the poppy preserve here in California so I can always go there to see the poppies, but my heart’s just not in it anymore. That is my daughter ’80 in the photo, she and ’79 were still in high school when these photos were taken many years ago.poppies1 There was a lot of life in those fields including a white crane who nested there every year. I know why they tear down nature and put up houses…. no not progress; money. My own house was put up over similar fields 35 years ago. I see these pictures now and it makes me so sad. Just one more side effect of urban sprawl.

This is ’79 in the same field. If you are wondering why I am waxing nostalgia today it’s because I get this way every May, which is when the poppies begin to bloom. Sometimes the color was so bright an orange it hurt your eyes to look at them. The hillsides were ablaze with orange. Now for the high quality professional pictures.

poppies7

These were taken in the same area as my photos above. They say for every wildflower picked, one hundred wildflowers will not bloom the next year.

The dessert may be hot, dry and have winds up to 40 miles an hour on a regular basis but it still has it’s own special beauty.

poppies5

Poppies do not have a fragrance but the sage and dessert lavender do. When there is a storm on the way and the ozone is crackling in the air and all is hushed, this is my favorite time.

poppies8

Sometimes I get tired of the desert and I miss trees and green things but on a day like the one above, watching the sunset, as the poppies close up for the night I am left speechless by God’s pallet of color. My California poppies, gone but not forgotten.
