What Do You Do When You Turn 55….

Do you run screaming into the night searching for a plastic surgeon or do you try to start a new fashion trend by wearing hats with veils. Well…. neither actually. Instead you get your hair done, getting rid of all that gray and have a “me” day, because after all it is your birthday and for once it really is about you. Turning 55 isn’t so bad, why in some places you can even get an early senior discount. Of course being 55 is a sort of gray area, too old to be middle-aged and too young to be a senior citizen. It’s like when you were nineteen and you were too old to be a kid but too young to be a grown up and have a drink.

Today is my birthday and I have decided to enjoy it with my new hair, my best friend (’73 who says I’m cute) and forget about the aging part. There will be no hats with veils or plastic surgeons this year. Birthdays are only numbers in the chain of your life and age is a state of mind. Of course I reserve the right to change that mind anytime I feel and if at the age of 60 I feel like screaming into the night for a plastic surgeon, I’m grabbing my hat, pulling down the veil, opening my window and screaming.

Thankfully 55 candles on a cake is not allowed because of fire code violations in 49 states .

HAPPY 55th!! Congrats, and may you spend it surrounded by love and lots of cake- fire hazard or no fire hazard!!

  3. I know 35-year-olds who seem ancient and 75-year-olds who are the most interesting, adventurous people.

We certainly have some say over how much our age defines us. Happy, happy birthday!

Happy Birthday! Even if it’s late. I hope you had a wonderful day.
Though when I turn 30 and hide under my covers, I bet you’re going to laugh at me, aren’t you?

Sorry I’m late to the party, but Happy Birthday a few days late anyway! Nothing says you can’t celebrate for a solid week. Doesn’t the saying about age go, “Mind over matter: If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”? As one who is also past the century mark, you can always do what I do. Make sure you intercept all photos of yourself and put them directly into Photoshop. ;-)

A happy, happy birthday, my bloggy friend.
