Little Girl Of Two….

I wrote this for ’80 when she married

'80 and the pursuit

I have a little girl of two who likes frills and curls and anything pink

“You are sweet” I tell her, “I know Mama” she says

“You are smart and pretty” I say, “I know Mama” she replies.

Because she is only two and cannot truly understand

I say to her ” The sky is green and monkeys live in the ocean”

“Oh I know Mama” she says while rolling her eyes.

I think to myself “how can I teach her”.

This will not do baby girl

The sky is blue not green and monkeys do not live in the ocean

“I know that Mama” she says with a large sigh.

I worry that she will not learn

That wisdom will not grow

I despair of all the things she does not know

I think to myself “how can I teach her”.

Time has passed and she is no longer two

There has been strife between us and life between us

Laughter, love, smiles and hugs

Tears, fears, strength and clash of wills.

But in the end when I say my final farewells

Of the love and pride for the woman she is, my Daughter, my friend

I take comfort in knowing her reply and that this time it is true

“I know Mama” she says, “I have always known”.

Me And Mother Theresa….

This is a quote from Mother Theresa whose faith and philosophy we could all learn from. This is a particular favorite of mine and one I try to follow. It has also helped me through many hard times.

People are often unreasonable and self centered

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind people may accuse you of ulterior motives

Be kind anyway.

If you are honest people may cheat you

Be honest anyway.

If you find happiness people may be jealous

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough

Do your best anyway.

For you see in the end it was between you and God

It was never between you and them anyway.

– Mother Theresa

Is It Monday….

When you have school age kids you always know what day of the week, day of the month it is. You have to, it is your job as a Mom. You keep their schedules and social calendars up to date. You make sure they are on time and never miss a concert, sport,  practice, lessons or anything else. You are organized not because it is your nature to be but because you have to in order to meet the needs of a large family. But what happens when they finish school and go out into the world on their own. It all goes to crap that’s what.

You no longer have a mind that remembers appointments like a personal planner, instead you must write everything down and then remember to check your calendar daily because if you forget to check, your screwed. You still have plenty to do but nothing that follows that rigid pace of a Mom with 4 kids. You finally wake up one morning, a beautiful morning, if a little hot and discover your not sure what day it is. “Is it Monday or maybe it’s Sunday, yes I think it is Sunday” finally you have to look at your cell phone to see that it is Monday, August 17th and confirm one of your worst fears, your losing you mind. When I say that I don’t mean crazy. I have always been a little bit crazy, in a good way. What I mean is that your brain cells are dying, your mind is going and you are losing the sharpness you once enjoyed. I wonder if it is from disuse but know in my heart it is age.  I haven’t forgotten the year yet but I imagine that is awaiting me too, somewhere down the line, far far into the future. So much to look forward to, so glad I probably won’t remember that I forgot to remember.

Fever Pitch….

I love books, I have said this many times before so you know it is true. I have been reading the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning and I am hooked. There have been 3 books so far and the 4th one is due out on August 18th, 2009. The main character is called MacKayla and there are Mac fans around the world. These books are quickly becoming part of the pop culture as they grow in popularity.

There is some head gear created by the main character called a Machalo. Fans got together and made a real one. The author was so taken with it that she started shipping it to fans so they could take their picture with it. The darn thing has now been more places than a seasoned traveler. I have included some of the pictures below so you can see how involved people have gotten with this story.

My only complaint is the amount of time it takes for the next book to come out, roughly a year. Book three left us on pins and needles with a life threatening cliffhanger and finally after a year of waiting and speculating we will find out how she survives on Tuesday (sigh). I gave ’80 the first 3 books to read a year ago and she is hooked too. The characters just draw you into Mac’s alternate world where “The Fae” and “Vampires” are real. Where the shadows themselves are alive and can kill you. If you need a good summer read and enjoy a break from reality then try these books, but remember “keep to the light”.
