Even though she has been gone for 13 years Erma Bombeck is still a wonder to me. She saw her life as an absurd comedy and gifted it to us through her books and newspaper columns. I have been re-reading “If Life is a Bowl of Cherries then Why am I Always in the Pits” for the 10th time and I always laugh and cry at the same spots in the book. There are not many authors who can stand the test of time and remain relevant. Erma can, and is the humorist of the century for those of us with kids. She once wrote,”Do you know what you call those who use towels and never wash them, eat meals and never do the dishes, sit in rooms they never clean, and are entertained till they drop? If you have just answered, “A house guest,” you’re wrong… because I have just described my kids”. We lost Erma in 1996 and we have never needed her humor more. I’m sure she would have plenty to say about today’s ideas of parenting and the economy. Just remember according to Erma,”Housework, if you do it right, will kill you”and “My theory on housework is, if the item doesn’t multiply, smell, catch fire, or block the refrigerator door, let it be. No one else cares. Why should you?” So the next time your feeling low and you need a large belly laugh, pick up a book by Erma Bombeck and enjoy it, savor it. She was truly one of a kind.

Know what I would like to hear? I want to know what you think about Schools that cut off the supply budget to the teachers. What do you think about Administrators giving the opportunity to general education students to take intercession classes to make up a failing grade but do not to the Special education students because ” there is no money”. Teachers buying 500 pencils on ebay but the school spending money on new chairs for the school board to sit on or paying for a breakfast AND a lunch for the people who VOLUNTEER their time on career day!!!! And while all this is happening several Californian families are saying what ever little prayers they can come up with that will hopefully help us keep our jobs on March 15th Seems a little backwards to me!
Erma is my hero…The world is just not as funny without her here!

Thanks for visiting, next time we link try archer’s corner, it is written by my granddaughter. The web is too dangerous a place for someone her age to have her own blog so I’ve given her a corner of mine. Preview a little of what you have to look forward too with your boys.lol
