Diving In….

My baby girl just turned 29 and to celebrate her birthday she went diving off the coast of Catalina Island. She and her husband Mike earned their certification about a month ago after taking dive classes all summer. Many years ago I tried to get mine but found out I couldn’t clear my sinuses below 15 feet (big disappointment), so I stick to snorkeling now. I worry about her because so much could go wrong and it is impossible to turn the Mommy gene off, but I do understand why she does it. I’m even a little envious. Last year she swam with the dolphins and this year she was one, what will she come up with next year. It was her dream as a little girl to be a  mermaid, I think it came true.  She took an underwater camera with her and this is what she saw.

'80 diving on her birthday

This is my baby girl……. recognize her. I wrote “Little Girl of Two” about her…….who knew? Wave hello to the nice folks ’80.

'80 on her 29th birthdayShe was always fond of blowing bubbles. That tether rope doesn’t look too good. I’m going to have to talk to the Captain about that.

And here I was hoping the Mommy Gene would have an automatic shut off valve. No such luck, huh?

My baby turned 9 this weekend and I was thinking that she… and I… were getting old! It is amazing how quick it goes. I love that you still call her your baby. It is something I tell all three of my girls that they will always be. Mommy’s baby!!! She looks adventurous and full of life. It is nice that she has found something she enjoys!

First I have to say I LOVE the black and tan damask background today……. 2nd I am envious…I have allways wanted to learn to dive. I don’t think there are that many places in texas though will have to check into it. They got some wonderful photos !!!

  8. Happy, happy birthday ’80! And thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures. So glad there are people out there that enjoy this “sport” or I’d never see the beauty of undersea life. Like you, I can’t dive deeper than the bottom of the average swimming pool. And with how much I love the water this was a huge disappointment.

The photos are amazing! Who needs outer space when you have pictures like these?! Army Wife has always wanted to climb Mount Everest, sky dive, bungee jump, etc. I tell her to wait until I am dead.

I am soo jealous too. Lovely to be able to experience the underwater world up close like that. Sigh…may be one day, I will eventually pluck up my courage :(
