This is George

I love my Kindle 2™ “George” and I wouldn’t trade him for anything. But for those of you who don’t have an e-reader yet and are thinking of getting one check out Barnes and Noble’s new e-reader Nook™. It’s pretty cool with all the same features as the Amazon Kindle™ plus a few more nifty features Kindle doesn’t have yet. It has a color touch screen for ordering and storing books. You can also lend your e-books to a friend and personalize Nook using your photos as screensavers. Nook is available starting Nov. 30th 2009. You can pre-order now on Barnes & for $259.00. For more information on the Nook go here. For information on the Kindle 2 go to

The lending part is the feature I am most jealous of. It has been the one big problem with my Kindle 2, you can’t lend the e-books to a friend. The price of the e-reader is still very high but most e-books are $9.99 or less (sometimes free) so you do save money over time. The E-readers biggest advantage over traditional books is immediate access and storage space, which is what makes it worth it in my opinion. Being able to store 1500 books in a space that is smaller than 1 sq. ft. is priceless if you read as much as I do. There is a lot to be said for being able to shop for a new book while sitting on the toilet an airplane or at three in the morning when you can’t sleep. Of course there is nothing like the smell, the touch, the sound that turning the page makes of a real book. It should be interesting to see who comes out on top in what is shaping up to be a big competition for your dollars. Is there room for 2  top dogs in the e-book business? We shall see…….my vote is on George.

  2. Oooo…thanks for blogging about this. Another bloggy friend was asking questions about the value of a Kindle. I’m sending her your way for more info!

Hi! I am the “other friend” Jane sent the your post link to and I really appreciate your thoughts on this. I am so torn over what to get, that I almost wish I bought the Kindle a year ago to avoid this new dilemma! I agree that sharing is a major benefit although I don’t anyone else with a Nook or Kindle to share with so that might make it less of a pro for me. I get a lot of gift certificates, which is why I am leaning towards the Kindle in the long run. I will have to research some more but thanks so much for your input!

I am such an avid reader. Or as you discovered in one of your old posts a bibliophibian…I think thats the right word. Any way I have been thinking for a long time about looking into a kindle or something like it. Thanks for the info.
