Daddy To The Rescue….

Well I have a story about my husband and it is a new one because it is happening now as I write this post. My son ’88 is a dj and he had a gig that was 2 hours away. Shortly after getting there he felt ill and decided to come home. He was unfamiliar with the area and quickly became lost. Turned out he was going the wrong way and was even further away from home. This would have been only a small problem except he didn’t have much gas. He had used his last $20 to put gas in the car earlier and because he didn’t play at the gig he did not get paid. We quickly figure out the quickest and shortest route for him to use and felt he might just have enough gas to make it. Again being unfamiliar with the area he went north instead of south at the exchange and was lost again. When he got too low on gas he pulled over at the next Denny’s and called us collect because his cell phone was dead. Boy when it goes wrong, it goes wrong. His Dad has gotten up out of bed and is getting dressed to go get him and buy him some gas so he can come home. He is over an hour away and it is 3:00 am. Now that’s a Daddy.

To ’73 the best Dad ever. We are buying you the biggest platter of Lucille’s ribs they have, because you deserve every one,…….. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY.

Guess Who…

baby robin

I was browsing through old photos and found this one. I started to think about how innocent we are when we start out in this world. Life is fully ahead of us with no reason to look back or have regrets, unlike now when looking back seems to be the primary direction of our thoughts and we’ve collected regrets along the way like trading cards. What do you think is going through her mind? Certainly not “I’m going to get married at 18, become a housewife, have 4 kids and someday write this kick ass blog” or maybe it was. Who is it……. it’s me.

UPDATE:

I have been asked to show a current picture by ck and gibby, so here is one that is not too Dorian Grey. The first thing I noticed was that I still have the double chin, thanks for that guys.

They Do Grow Up….

c2My son ’88 is is turning 21 today and it seems so strange that my last baby is all grown up. Because of the economy he still lives at home and is more dependent on us than he wants to be, but times are hard and that is the way of things today. He wants to be a successful DJ in the music industry who does massive events for 30,000 or more people at a time. He just got a big break towards making this happen by getting a manager who is well known in the business. I still look back at what a funny little boy he was and how different it was to raise a boy than it was to raise three girls. It was a tough time for him growing up with 3 older sisters who felt it was their mission in life to pick on him and toughen him up. What with the constant threat of swirlies from ’75 and the general mayhem from the other two I am amazed he survived toddler-hood in one piece.

One of my favorite stories about him is when he was 3 and we were walking down the street in Solvang Ca. He was lagging behind a little so his Dad turned to him and said “88 hurry up, shake a leg”. Well he stopped walking and looked down at his feet, picked up the right leg and shook it, then started walking again with the biggest grin on his face because he had done it right, just the way Daddy said too. We laughed so hard we cried.

As a kid he loved to watch Power Rangers, collect Pokemon, and played video games like a professional. He is a young man still flexing his “what’s life all about” muscles and trying to figure out his next move. Welcome to adulthood ’88 you finally made it, in spite of the swirlies, your fear of the smoke detector, and 3 older sisters plotting against you. This then is my handsome son ’88 also known as DJ (Jay)B, whose DJ name has nothing to do with his real name, but apparently it sounds cooler.

He always loved hats.

Girls were crazy about him then and thought he was so cute. They still do.

Singing “Take On Me” by Ah Ha at his sister ’79’s wedding last year. That is ’80 playing trombone in the background, her husband was on trumpet(not pictured) and my brother in-law was on keyboard with a few close friends filling out the band for this one song. It was his wedding present to her and it was amazing.88 singing

He hits that high note.

One of my favorite photos. ’80 and ’88 with no bunny ears to ruin it.

And finally DJ (Jay)B so serious about his work that I know he will succeed.

Jack And The Dryer….

I am re-posting today because I just couldn’t think of anything I wanted to say. This is one of my very first post and very few of you have read it, so it made sense to choose this one.  I have re-worked it a little bit.

Do you have a crazy animal in your family? I do, in fact I have several. But the one I am telling you about today is Jack, a Cocker Spaniel/Jack Russell mix. Big brown eyes and a tubby little body on long skinny legs, that’s Jack. His full name is Jack Flash but we never use that anymore because, well look at him, he is not fast or energetic. Together our two dogs names sound like a rock band…. Jack Flash and the Little Man Mac Attack (aka MacGyver).

We have one of those upright dryers on a pedestal and Jack can open it. Yes, you heard me, Jack the dog can open the dryer. He also climbs in and lays on the warm clean (use to be hair free) clothes. He even climbed in and pooped there one rainy day which was so not cool. What is his fascination with the dryer? Got to give him points for being able to open it without fingers. How many dogs do you know who can do that.

He is also scared of any strange noise including the neighbors pool pump. When he is scared he pants very loudly at the back door leaving a puddle of drool, so gross! He has to have a wubbie blanket to sleep with like a baby. He chews on the blanket until it is just shreds and then continues to fluff the pieces to sleep on. He is a good dog most of the time, but I really wish he would stay out of the dryer and off my laundry. I always seem to get the quirky ones.

He doesn’t like having his picture taken so he hides if he sees the camera.
