Of all the movies they could re-make, why this one? This is what I continually ask myself. You can’t write a better story or have better actors. You can only improve the technology, in other words CGI. The re-make of Psycho in 1998 was crazy. The director Gus Van Sant shot the film scene for scene with the 1960s Hitchcock film and called it a tribute, I call it a rip off. Sometimes the director feels he can bring something new to the story like Spielbergs’ War of the Worlds. The main characters were different though not likable. The design of the invasion was closer to the book but it lacked the grace of the first film. Classic films no matter how tempting should not be re-made, instead re-release them. Let them find new audiences, restore the film, improve the sound and give it a limited release and I guarantee that fans will buy tickets.

Oh doG. I understand.
I’m so tired of remakes, and movies based on books. Come on! Think of your own idea already!
I agree with you on the re-release thing……the 2 things I hope for every day is that Psycho (the original one) is put on blue ray (or dvd, whatever) and they never EVER remake Dr. Strangelove. I don’t think I have the stomach to see one the best movies made into a horrible money scheme that most movies now, are made into.
I agree whole heartedly and I am glad you like Dr. Strangelove or How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb.
Kyleigh, did you just call grandma a doG!….ha ha ha
You are all just close-minded. Those movies were some what entertaining…..maybe. I am still waiting to see how badly they are going to butcher Faye Fever
We are open minded. We just think original ideas make better movies.
Movies get remade because the people who run the studios are too young to have seen or appreciated the original. Think about it. How many of today’s movie-goers have ever even heard of Cary Grant?
That is a good point Burt. Another thought is that the studio execs. have no original ideas left and have so little respect for our intelligence that they don’t think we will know it’s a re-make. They not only re-make classic films but now they steal foreign film concepts and re-package them as American films, example: “Quarantine” (2008) was a re-make of Spain’s “Rec.” (2007) not to mention all of the re-packaged Japanese films of the last few years, “The Ring”, “The Grudge”, etc.
Movie makers don’t remake movies for “the younger generation to aprreciate it” They make it becaue They want to be big and not think. If children wanted to see good movies they would. This generation (over the age of 6) automatically hates anything over 1989, they consider it old, and stupid and boring. Remakes are just moneymakers that doesn’t aquire much (or as much) work.
oh and doG is God but backwards…..I thought of that and thought it was funny.
