Christmas E-mail To Everyone….

So did everyone get the eight maids a milking I sent today? Don’t you just love them, they are so quaint. I never realized how many of you don’t have a place for seven swans to swim in, try the bathtub instead of making threats. Geesh! where’s your Christmas spirit….I know right. Oh! by the way, are the six geese I sent still laying. I can’t believe they swallowed the five golden rings.  Now the four calling birds were my mistake. I thought they would sweetly sing a song, not prank call everyone in your address books while you were sleeping. Please tell everyone how sorry I am about that, especially Aunt Myrtle. I have spoken to the four calling birds and it won’t happen again. So sorry about the mess with the three french hens and the two turtle-doves, who knew they weren’t housebroken. The partridge was nice though….wasn’t it….I know you all liked the pear trees. Oh well (sigh), it’s the thought that counts, right. I bet you can’t wait to see what I send tomorrow.

p.s. I promise it’s not birds! I am done with birds. I admit they were a bad idea. Now you do like music…don’t you?

Friday Soapbox: Oh the Weather Outside is frightful….

The weather here in the high desert of California is strange. Sometimes you can get *70 and sunny in December, but 2 days later it is cold, wet ,dreary and in the lower *50’s dropping into the *30’s at night (like today). You never really know how to dress out here so you carry everything you might need in your car. It makes for a crowded car that looks like you might be living in it. You pass the other Mom’s and they look at your car, then you look at theirs, then you sort of just nod at each other as if to say “yeah its strange weather but at least I’m prepared” The good thing is you get to break out your sweatpants. Soft, warm, fleecy, comfortable sweatpants. I love sweats. They are the most comfortable pants on the planet. They are also the most forgiving of your waistline. When I was pregnant with my son ’88 I never even wore maternity pants, only sweatpants. That drawstring is incredibly long you know. After he was born I could honestly say “I can still fit in the pants I wore before I was pregnant” which is always a wonderful thing.

You can also curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book and some hot chocolate, if you have the time on days like these. If we get a few inches of snow it will only last for a day or two and then melt away as though it had never been here at all, very sad. But we always hope for snow anyway. The kids have been doing their snow dance (sort of like a rain dance) with twirling and whirling and singing so we will see how effective this is.

What Were They Thinking: A Lesson Learned….

K goes to a high school that is located on a college campus. She takes classes in both and will graduate with her high school diploma and her 2 year degree in college at the same time. I tell you this because today they were handing out free samples of an energy drink at the college and K thought it might be nice to try one since she never had before. What she discovered was, that energy drinks are not her friend. Many of the kids tried them and apparently they were laughing and talking fast all day. Some complained of their heart racing. I know we have all had the talk with our kids about “don’t do drugs” and “just say no” but do we now have to add energy drinks to the list. The college can’t tell the difference between the high school and the college age kids in this situation so they take no responsibility for giving them out. K says she will not be doing that anymore, which is a very good thing. What seemed like a good idea at the time and appeared quite harmless but wasn’t, is actually a lesson learned.
